Internal Discussions: An Appointment in Cardiology

Resources for Preparing for A Clinical Application

  1. Identify and understand possible conditions.
Looking at the anatomy and physiology in “To the Heart of the Matter” focuses on a healthy cardiovascular system. In the midst of cardiology appointments, perspectives tend to be looking at how the system is out of balance.

Use the following websites to look at some of the conditions and diseases which might be encountered in an appointment. Some of these websites also give further attention to the structure and function of the heart.

A.D.A.M. Health Illustrated Encyclopedia--This resource has excellent diagrams and descriptions of both conditions and procedures. It is provided through MedLine Plus.

    Angina
Arrhythmias    Atherosclerosis    Cholesterol    Heart Failure  Coronary Heart Disease    Diabetes    Stroke    Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction)

  2. Familiarize yourself with possible procedures used for diagnosis and treatment.

Some procedures to understand. Clicking on the word will take you to the A.D.A.M Encyclopedia for more information.
